Richard Friend announces campaign for Saline County Sheriff in 2026

Richard Friend, a seasoned law enforcement professional with more than two decades of service across local, state, federal, and military agencies, officially announced his candidacy for Saline County Sheriff today. Running as a Republican, Friend is focused on restoring trust, enhancing public safety, and leading with integrity.

“I’m running for Sheriff because Saline County deserves a department that is proactive, accountable, and built on trust,” said Friend. “I’ve dedicated my life to protecting this community, and I’m ready to lead with transparency and a commitment to service.”

Friend’s extensive background includes service as:

    •    Chief of Police in England, Arkansas

    •    US Army Sergeant First Class (Retired)

    •    Federal Investigator with NCIS (Naval Criminal Investigative Service)

    •    Drug Recognition Expert and Patrolman First Class with Arkansas Highway Police

    •    ROTC Instructor at the University of Central Arkansas

He has completed a wide range of advanced training, including:

    •    Arkansas Law Enforcement Training Academy

    •    Arkansas School of Law Enforcement Supervision

    •    DEA Clandestine Lab School

    •    FBI Crime Scene Processing

    •    Federal Law Enforcement Training Center (FLETC)

    •    Army Senior Leadership Course

    •    Basic Combat Training at Ft. Jackson

    •    Tactical instruction through Blackwater

If elected, Friend’s top priorities will include:

    •    Enhancing public safety through community engagement and rapid response

    •    Combating drug activity with targeted enforcement and prevention programs

    •    Increasing transparency and building stronger community relationships

    •    Improving jail operations and reducing recidivism through rehabilitation efforts

Friend resides in Bryant with his wife, Tammy, and is an active member of the Church at Rock Creek in Little Rock.
