I have long been concerned about whether or not our sheriff's, past and present, run a background check on the officers they hire. In a recent meeting with Mike Frost, this topic came up. I questioned whether it made sense to have a detective who had been arrested in the past for selling drugs out of a Benton PD squad car. In response to my question, I was given a sermon on forgiveness.
Likewise, the fact that another current employee, who appears to be an administrator of Pennington's Bruce4Sheriff website, also has a "checkered" past. I just don't understand how you can expect respect for an administration that doesn't mind that their deputies have a criminal background.
For Henry, who does not like to read documents, I will summarize:
On July 18, 2005, Richard Scott, Saline County Deputy Sheriff, was arrested for 3rd degree domestic battery. The investigating officer wrote in his report that Scott was drinking at a bar in Little Rock where his X-wife was a waitress. Scott wanted her to enter a wet shirt contest and she refused. He became angy and punched her in the left eye where she had visible injuries. The officer states that Scott was visibly intoxicated. He was transported to jail.

How much credit do voters give to employees that endorse their boss?
Would it not be wise to say they are in fear of thier job if they dont?
So R. Scott was inserting himself in the campaign before Ms. Ives even posted these papers on him. Im sure he owes Pennington a great deal of support since he hired him after the incidents hes had as a law enforcement official. No one every answered my question.. How is it that Saline County can not find employees that do not have a past record like this guy? Would you hire a person with a background like this if you were in charge of the law enforcement in Saline county?

I couldn't help but grin when I saw your post. Not a laugh at you kind of grin but a "wow, he keeps trying" kind of grin.
We'll see if Ms. Ives leaves your post.
Comment by Linda Ives on May 16, 2012 at 3:56pm Earlier comment by Chris in regard to Richard Scott:
"You're dragging a man who has nothing to do with the election through mud . . ."
This is not a true statement. Scott is part and parcel of 'TEAM PENNINGTON" as is shown in the examples of posts Scott has made on the Bruce4sheriff web page. I say again, I have had concerns about numerous officers in the sheriff's office for years and have had more than one conversation with the sheriff's office about it -- one as recently as a month or so ago. The material I posted was used to illustrate what I feel is very bad judgement on Pennington's part, I believe it is part of Pennington's record as sheriff and would be of interest to the general public when considering him for re-election. They can decide for themselves. I usually have my say and do not argue with other posters about their opinions as I believe they are entitled to theirs just as I am mine. But Chris' statement that Scott had nothing to do with Pennington's re- election campaign is blatantly untrue.

Comment by THING 1 on May 16, 2012 at 2:40am After reading all of the various posts by supporters of both candidates it is clear to me that if James Ward does not have the decency to be embarrassed by the tone his "team" has taken, then he really is not the upstanding candidate he proclaims to be. Is it really necessary to be so hateful? I am glad that the Pennington supporters have such a thick skin. If it were me taking all that abuse I don't think I would be so cordial.
Comment by YouMADbro? on May 16, 2012 at 1:15am Let me clear this up, the officer WON the lawsuit. Meaning, nothing was found of the case. I'm absolutely sick & tired of the mudslinging against honorable people. These people come into work rain or shine to help citizens of this county, no matter the issue. This is respect they get? Absolutely none. Instead you're digging up dirt & not showing the ending results, which in return degrades the people who put their lives on the line for people they've never met. I am absolutely disgusted. This is no longer an election, might as well be a daytime talk show. Grow up people. What happened to your morals?
& I deeply apologize if my previous post was taken out of context. I did not mean anything against anyone, but was attempting to show my support for the officer who was being viciously attacked.
Comment by YouMADbro? on May 16, 2012 at 12:53am & to all of you guys that are concerned about the way inmates are treated in jail, they are there for a reason. It's not a 5 star resort.
Comment by YouMADbro? on May 16, 2012 at 12:51am Bill, you're awesome. That's all. Thank you guys for everything that you do. I appreciate everything! :)
Same goes to each & every one of you in law enforcement!
