Judge Chris Piazza ruled on same-sex couples marriage

Pulaski County Circuit Judge Chris Piazza ruled that the 2004 voter-approved amendment to the state constitution violates the rights of same-sex couples. He didn’t put his ruling on hold as some judges have done in other states, opening the door for same-sex couples in Arkansas to begin seeking marriage licenses, though it wasn’t clear whether that would happen before Monday.

“This is an unconstitutional attempt to narrow the definition of equality,” Piazza wrote. “The exclusion of a minority for no rational reason is a dangerous precedent.”

Piazza issued his ruling late Friday, about half an hour after the marriage license office in Pulaski County closed. Read more by clicking below.

I think that we should have a provision whereby any two people should be able to declare a residential partnership. They could be in love or just two people who live together long term such as unmarried siblings. They would be able to get tax and insurance benefits afforded married couples.

Judge Piazza never gets it wrong it seems.  I admire him, and have for a good while.  Of course he is married to a good friend of mines Aunt, but I don't know him personally.  But he makes some of the soundest decisions as a Judge, he is still human and has compassion, a thing many of our judges and others in the legal system here in Arkansas are seriously lacking. I have the upmost respect for him.  Of course the bashers are out in full force, and that one a**hole who shall not be named cause I do not like to speak his name, is calling for an impeachment?!?  Can we impeach a senator?  Just curious.

Piazza would make a sound Supreme Court Justice.

Karen, when I read that I was taken aback by the sheer beautiful truth of the statement.

2 Thumbs up for Piazza!!!

Judge Piazza wrote:

"It has been over forty years since Mildred Loving was given the right to marry the person of her choice. The hatred and fears have long since vanished and she and her husband lived full lives together; so it will be for the same-sex couples.

It is time to let that beacon of freedom shine brighter on all our brothers and sisters. We will be stronger for it."

Thank you Judge Piazza.
