INVESTIGATION UNDER WAY ON SHERIFF -- REPORT SOON

Saline County's legal expert-on-all-things Gina H. Reynolds just posted the following blog:

Saline County Sheriff has interesting thoughts about evidence

The Saline County Sheriff testified Wednesday, April 25th, in a criminal trial that the best evidence in the case would be the officer's written report, not the video of the incident in the jail that his staff failed to preserve. Unbelievable in so many ways. First,  does he really think a judge, jury, or individuals cannot look at a video and determine what it shows? Secondly, an officer's report in and of itself is hearsay.  An officer can refer to it to refresh his memory, however, he must testify from his own personal knowledge. So an officer's written report is not evidence.
The Sheriff  evidently did not know that his own department's policy required the department to keep video when criminal charges were going to be filed. Nor did he know that over a year ago the policy changed from keeping the video for 3 months to keeping it 6 months based upon a sound thrashing on a case where videos were not kept.  In that case the judge told them that storage for digital media was cheap and they needed to make arrangements to save it when a criminal charge was filed. As a result, the Sheriff's office removed all cameras from the BAC room at the jail.  So there is never any video when someone is being tested on the BAC machine for DWI.  Somehow the video is always kept if it helps them. Why is it never kept if it might show something beneficial to the defendant?
Is this what Saline County really wants? If it is, then Saline County citizens get the justice they deserve. I am not supporting any particular candidate for Saline County Sheriff, but I will not vote for the current one.

In a rare and interesting move, she has restricted comments to those seen on approval.  I will be fully investigating this matter, and will post the findings on this blog for all to see.  Of course, I expect my own investigation to completely corroborate her version of things down to the last detail.

Oh, and monkeys will also fly out of my.....no, I promised I would not go there.  I will keep this on the high road, and get back to everyone as soon as possible.  Oh, and I will be allowing comments.  I just love it when misinformed people go nuts with fantasies and pretend they are accurate.  It gives me lots of things to do when I'm bored.

Hey Tripp, how's the investigation coming, son?  Seriously, we all wanna know how this one plays out.  Don't keep us in suspense too long.  And to Donna, you're voting for Ward?  I'm cancelling you out with my vote.

Comment by Donna David Jones on April 30, 2012 at 2:41pm

Why would anyone rip Shelli for voting for Pennington?  I am voting for Ward, but I dont look to hog tie Shelli & or dismember her.  lol

Who all are running for sherriff?  If it is just Bruce Pennington and James Ward, it is no contest!!! Bruce wins.

Comment by Luther Sutter on April 28, 2012 at 4:55pm

Me and Ricky Tripp, supporting the same candidate ...  If Bruce can unite us, perhaps Bruce should think of running for Higher Office.

Shelli, get ready.  You've just endorsed Pennington. They are going to rip you limb from limb, if not here (since you can remove them), then in all their private conversations.  The "she" I have been addressing is our own Gina H. Reynolds, the legal voice and expert for all of Saline County, who knows every aspect of every office, and the failings of each and every elected official -- as long as they are the ones the elite don't like.

She is yet another member coming on here, expecting to criticize freely and when anyone calls her on it with any kind of force, they are falsely accused of "name calling."  In her case, it was on her most recent blog, where she is controlling comments and pretending not to.  Told me that I was taking down the website by engaging in name calling but the only problem is that when she posted this remark, there were only three posts -- hers and mine -- and no name calling at all.  They count on readers not to read back far enough to find out.

What "she" are you talking about? I'm voting for Pennington, btw. I know him to be a qualified, experienced man for the job and I trust his even-keeled temperament. I've not seen a more qualified candidate.

Just a note regarding my opening exchange with Ms. Reynolds on the other blog....take note of the veiled accusation of conduct not engaged in (name calling) and the denial of "speaking for other people" when that is clearly the case (Sheriff Pennington's opposition.)  The entire posting is not a revealing of a position on evidence, but a slam piece to encourage others in not voting for "the current one" (sheriff.)  Here is the exchange:

Ricky, this is the first time I have ever posted a new topic.  I didn't realize I had the approval whatever on, but I have no problem approving every comment.  I don't censor people's thoughts.

I know that James Ward is running in the Republican primary, however, I haven't seen any information about whether someone is running as a Democrat.  I had heard Larry Davis was running as a Democrat, but have not seen any publicity regarding that. So, I haven't made up my mind.  I have in the past, just not voted in a specific race when all the choices were repugnant to me.

Please do check out the facts behind my post.  It was in Saline County District Court in front of Judge Mike Robinson.  Although that court is not a court of record, there is an audio recording made and kept for one year. Please do check out my facts.

Mr. Tripp, I don't call you names or speak for other people.  I would appreciate the same curtesy from you.  It degrades this board.

Oh cute -- you have comment approval turned on!   Fine.  I will post my findings in a separate blog.

I will thoroughly investigate your entire allegation and, unless censored, will be back here to respond to it.

As for this statement, you have got to be kidding me: "I am not supporting any particular candidate for Saline County Sheriff, but I will not vote for the current one."  Let's see....hmmmm, who does that leave?  You're serious?  You consider that to be a coherant remark?  Like the recent poster who ripped Dennis Milligan wide open, and then said her mind WASN'T made up as to who to vote for?

Did you drink the same water, Gina?  Funny how you come here and you're always the expert on everything involving the court system and now even the Sheriff's department, always the same feigned authority about everything.  I can't wait to dig into this one.

As any literate person can read, there was no name caling or abusive language used.  To say it doesn't make it so, but this is how some people roll here.  I could say the sky is blue, and someone would accuse me of name calling.  Sometimes I feel like I'm back in grade school.

Enough of this.  On with the investigation.  Details coming soon -- by an adult.
