Hello, just need to get something off my chest...The article in the Benton Courier today may be a little misleading.. Gary's Drive In is not closing.. The Benton community needs to know how we feel about the issue:

My name is Scottie Viall the owner of the Dairy Barn located inside Gary's Drive- In...My husband and I have been struggling for the last 6 months to start a small restaurant.something of our own..We started the Dairy Barn in the (old pines) this past summer we struggled all summer in a building with no air and electical problems and did we struggle but we kept working hard. everyday and I worked 60 hours a week at my day job and Bob worked the Dairy Barn 60 hours a week..We just want to work as a family and be together in our own business... We were making a name for ourselves and a good one... One day we get a phone call from the landlord of Gary's Drive In and was asked if we would like to move into Gary's. We are so excited we thought it was a great location and it had a gas grill and no electical problems which meant when we did get busy and the fryers and grill would not go out. This was a dream come true..We had never been in Gary's before..I have worked the last 25 years At denny's in little rock and raised my family..had no ideal about the history at Gary's...When we saw the place we are both very overwhlemed and shocked...There was so much cleaning and repairs, I started crying cause we had nothing left from starting The Dairy we made a decision. We closed the old Dairy Barn and starting bringing Gary's back up to standards where it needed to be..It took 14 days of cleaning and repairing this restaurant and money we did not have..

I do not know what happend to the person before us and never have met this person but the condition of the building told us, this person lost his focus in Gary's and was tired of it..We are honored to be at Gary's Drive- In..It seems that every owner of Gary's has done something great in this place and now it is our turn...We have turned this restaurant around...This Drive-In has had no one really care about it for a long time..I believe the Benton community does care about this place..I know for us it means that we can support our family and be together more and provide jobs for people..Our only goal is to bring back pride to this place not to get rid of it..I am thankful for the Gary's and Bobby's that ran this place and worked here and passed it down to the new owners but this place needs a family that cares again and we care..Bob and I are working day and night at this place to make it great again and to be the place for the next generation to have the fond memories that the past generations have had...This wonderful restaurant is saving our family and allowing us to work togeher..For the first time in 25 years I can take my kids to school, make breakfast for them, or take days off for them and be with my husband more.We are still sturggling but that is okay.God has given us this opportunity and He makes all things possible .We are truely blessed and honored to be apart of Gary's Drive Inn...We will always be known as The Dariy Barn inside Gary's Drive Inn and that is okay with us..We will always give and serve the best to the Benton community..

Thank you,

Scottie Vaill

I ate at Gary's this afternoon. The burger was great. A welcome change from the fast-food type burger you get up on Military.

My memory is that the place first opened in 1961 as the Whopperbuger #2. Am I right? Surely it's the last of it's kind from back then that is still operating.

I tried to call Gary's last night from the number I found in the phone book. getting an automated answer saying this number is no longer in service I concluded you were closed. Please post the new phone number for everyone. I bet your fried catfish is just as good as it has always been. Maybe the coleslaw will be even better.

That just about made me cry, girl! We're gonna have to let some folks know you're there so you can test the equipment at capacity! What are your hours and days?
