On Wednesday November 21, 2012, the Saline County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigation Division obtained an arrest warrant for Paul Babbitt, a Saline County Deputy, for theft of property. Babbitt was taken into custody without incident, booked and then released. Babbitt was placed on administrative leave and relieved of duty, pending a decision by the Sheriff.

I  want  to  know  why  the  value  was  listed  as  20.00  when  one  prescription  at  any  pharmacy  is  over   140.00   before  insurance   and   after  insurance  runs  close  to  85.00?   and  that's  just  for   standard  ammount  of  30  pills  .    Secondly  I  am  curious  to  know  why  the  home  owner  had  over  400  of  them  in  his  possesion  when  no  Dr  would  ever  prescribe  that  many  at  once?   A  number  of  things  just  don't  add  up  here

And of course the most important question is did he steal them to use them or sell them -- he definitely could have made a nice chunk of change if he sold them.  Either way, in most counties it would be a no-brainer whether or not he needs to be fired. but keep in mind there is a Sgt employed there now who pled guilty to selling drugs out of her squad car and part of the plea agreement was that she never work in law enforcement again.  So I guess it would be hard to fire someone who fits in so sell at SCSO.

It is the victim who is disabled -- not the suspect. But am I missing something? 400 4mg Dilaudid valued at $20!?
Depending on region, street price $5-100 per tab per DEA.

Seems like a lot of work for an instant high!

Most addicts inject dilaudid rather than swallow pills -- they crush them up in a spoon, add water, heat it up, draw it up in a syringe and inject.

You can't buy 400 4mg dilaudid for 20.00 which is the value they put on it.  Online they sell for 25 -35 dollars and up  for 120 tablets -- on the street they are about 40.00 a tablet.  I would be curious to know why it took them from 11/3  when it was reported till now to charge him.

Bo--I agree with you--it is pathetic to ruin a career over 20 worth ofdrugs but it shows just how strong the addiction must have been for him to be willing to risk it all--I feel sorry for his family--they must be devastated.

Very sad to ruin your career over $20 worth of meds he probably could have obtained legally by going to his family physician and getting an Rx.

Administrativer leave with or without pay? just curious.  Are they allowed to say where this theft occured?  was it in Benton?  What property did he take?
