Perhaps it is only because I am paying more attention to local news, but is crime on the rise in Saline County?

I live in a neighborhood where, in the past, I could leave my car unloacked at night, leave tools sitting out in the carport, take naps in the backyard, etc... Of course I do have a big old guard dog and a little bitty alert dog, but still.  I just don't feel comfortable doing that anymore if I know that I am not going to be home for a while. Is it just my imagination or is there just more meanness around lately???

I agree guitarman.  I think we tend to notice it more in our own communities.  Plus with technology being the way it is, we hear about it quicker and more frequently than in the past.

I don't know the statistics but I would guess that crime in general is up everywhere. Unemployment the last few years hasn't helped. And a meth addict will pick up anything that is available.

I've posted two links below that give you some more insight into crime stats in the city of Benton.  Hope they help out.

I am usually home during the day so I keep an eye on our little group of houses here. We live in a neighborhood that has one way in and one way out and are familiar enough with each other to know what cars should and should not be around. But still.

I've felt the same way over the last year. It seems to be getting worse. When I'm home I lock the house now, the cars stay locked. Nothing that looks valuable gets let in the car. We even clean out the change daily.
