Benton Officer Goss is a Friggin Hero
Benton Police Department reports that the day after Christmas at about 10:15 AM, Officer Chris Goss responded to 2908 Derby Road on report of a house fire. Upon his arrival, he observed thick, black smoke coming all four side of the roof.
Ofc. Goss was informed by a neighbor that the homeowner was inside and was bedridden due to a medical condition. He then made entry to the home and observed smoke throughout the inside of the home and flames shooting out of a room. He yelled out, but didn’t get a response from anyone after searching the front of the home.
While he was inside, a subject on-scene yelled to Ofc. Goss that the homeowner was located in a back bedroom of the home. He then started crawling below the smoke to the rear of the residence where he found the homeowner in a bedroom.
Due to the increasing smoke and flames in the front of the home, Ofc. Goss picked her up and carried her out of the back of the residence to safety. Ofc. Goss was able to carry her to a neighbor’s house where she was turned over to paramedics for screening.
