Mr. Pennington needs just one more term to get a full retirement from the citizens of Saline County.  What has he done to earn a continued paycheck on the backs of the taxpayer?

  • Burglaries have not been investigated (all reports taken over the phone)
  • Drug arrests are down 68%
  • Bruglary rate is 50% higher than the national average
  • Internet predator arrests are down 95%
  • Jail remains out of control and ranks #1 in death and abuse cases
  • Has pending class action lawsuit for requiring inmates to pay a warrant fee even after he was warned to stop by not only an attorney but by an attorney generals opinion
  • No new deputies in 20 years have been added and he has done nothing to come up with a solution to change this aspect (43,000 new residents in same time period and sheriff budget is 6 times higher during same time period) ***Where is the money going?***
  • No new technology has been added with the exception to kiosks being added to the jail pods for inmates to send emails out (WOW)
  • Several new dodge chargers have been destroyed under his watch
  • The reserve program has become a spot for political appointees (List of reserves will be at bottom)
  • Illegally appointed three quorum court members to the reserve program
  • Lost the 309 program after they were caught drinking and having sex in the visitation room
  • Jail continues to fail inspection regarding trianing that is required by law
  • Purchased three luxury SUV's (Tahoes) on the backs of taxpayers (1 was given by us marshal service)
  • Discontinued work with Marshal Service after they got the new Tahoe
  • Nearly 1 Million in payout due to lawsuits due to lack of training in jail
  • Left the East End Substation unused for nearly two years (until re-election this year)
  • Specail treatment of David Pierce (54 Counts of contact with young boys)
  • Lied to the public regarding 1.6 million he claims he turned back
  • Claims his drug arrests are down 68% because he has put them all in prison
  • Lied to his own party and used them to get elected them stabbed them in the back
  • Has a long history of not telling the truth (see state police record and compare to today)
  • Failed to call ambulance for an inmate then tried to cover it up
  • Has said that he doesn't care about the very public who elected him when they complain (see video released by Mrs. Ives)
  • Has failed to offer any new programs that are inovative or technological

* Political appointments to the reserve program by the Sheriff include; Dennis Milligan, Mark Kizer, Alan Dabbs, Tom Lish, Rick Meyer, Patrick Rhodes...seems like I am missing someone here.

My husband was hired as a new position in the jail. He did not replace anyone.
Comment by John M Cooper on May 20, 2012 at 9:30pm

We are not talking about replaceing deputies that have quit or been fired causing an 80% turnover rate.  We are talking about a brand new hire that is an addition to the department. Out with the turncoat RINO and in with the new.  James Ward a new Sheriff for a safer tomorrow!!!

Don't waste your time Heather!! He can't back up his accusations!! Typical!

Comment by Heather Brown on May 20, 2012 at 9:27pm
When did he fail to call an ambulance for an inmate. @ Wendy you talk about Pennington people bashing check out the FOP blog where a ward supporter suggested I have a car accident. That's not cruel or bashing is it???
Comment by Heather Brown on May 20, 2012 at 9:19pm
I know of 2 new deputies in less than a year so that statement is FALSE

Cooper, the best you can do is prove he bought a new fleet?? Wow! Impressive!! Ward must be so proud of his fan club!!! Your a joke!!

Your very weak attempt to twist my words is amusing.  The last sentence of the comment was and I repeat:  This is my humble opinion.

48 hours 45 mins till your little world will crumble Cruse.  You feabile attempt at a meaningful conversation will disapper in to the wide open space of the intranet.

Have a good night sir.

Mr. Cooper,

Chris on here seems to think those SUVs were purchased with a grant. Looks to me that we purchased these items with taxpayer this correct?...not that a grant is not our money either though. I know it cost more to outfit those Tahoes with the equipment and lockout boxes they need so someone will not steal the weapons out the back. Do you have a cost on how much it cost to outfit those vehicles compared to the Chargers? (Which we already had the cages and equipment for?)

Since you purport to speak for and represent all the agencies and community leaders in Saline County and the State of Akansas (aren't promotions great !) are you saying out loud on a public forum that they will refuse to work with James Ward as the elected sheriff ?

Are you kidding me? Now that you have put that into writing (i've already made copies) it only proves the theory of the "Good Ole Boys" rule is in fact alive and thriving.

Every time you guys say something it reminds the citizens of the days and times of the Steed administration and the corruption that ran rampant from the Sheriff's office to the Prosecutors office and down the street and up the courthouse steps.

Do you guys understand that todays citizens and especially the ones who lived thru it are screaming at the top of their lungs for CHANGE, because they NEVER want it that way again in THEIR county ?

The Sheriff totally missed the mark on his campaign strategy he should have been out listening to the concerns of the citizens giving them the answers or at least promising to find the answers and seek out a solution, not out bashing people and engaging in dirty politics.

The good citizens of Saline County are not unreasonable folks but they do expect the people they elect to public office to respond to them, to uphold and take serious their oath of office.

Now the important stuff,

May God Bless the Law Enforcement Officers who selflessly gave the ultimate price in the line of duty and for those whom they humbly served with honor I salute you!
