I had forgoten about the loss of the 309 program. But agian the local media tried to cover that up as they have done everything. Remember when the Cooyer ran a series on "Abuse in The Jail"? That got someone fired from the paper because when they started it said series 1 of 5 and the publisher who was out of town could not stop it once they found out. The Cooyer is ran by the "Power Players" in Benton. Just ask Brent Davis who was just threatened by Dennis Milligan and the Sheriff who went in yesterday and through a crying fit because they ran an ad from James Ward showing the real crime statistics. What a joke of a paper and Matt Burks is owned by the Sheriff, Kirk Lane and Kevin Russell who using him. He wouldn't know a factual story if it hit him in the head. This entire election cycle he has been running press for the Sheriff that was 6 months old and very laughable...like the Meth Bust that was "A MAJOR DRUG BUST". It was 6 months old news and less than an ounce. They saved it for the election...what a rag the paper is thats why they have very few readers.
RING, RING, RING...it's the puppet reporter calling in for duty! LOL ... but seriously, here is a factual story that has hit me in the head. All of your posts Mr. Cooper a.k.a. the person "called out" — yeah I interviewed you when you campaigned for a particular political office and you didn't even speak for yourself (someone else was there with you and there are witnesses to verify because it was in the editorial office) you know this because when I asked you a question, you turned to that person with you and he responded for you and you shook your head yes — your posts are misleading and not factual. Also, there are times when a man should set aside his personal feelings, hang his head in prayer or keep it up high with a salute towards the men and women that sacrificed their lives so that we may have our freedom to express our personal beliefs and feelings ... that time was at the Police Memorial. If it was not for those lives defending our freedoms, you would not be able to post your opinions on this message board. And you should have dressed in manner that is respectful, these are the people that you are wanting to be in charge of and you can't give them the common courtesy that the deserve? If you want a good sheriff's department, you give them that common courtesy on a day that is centered around them, because those people in the audience saying goodbye again to their fellow brothers and sisters in law enforcement ... those are the same people that will put their lives on the line - for you, for me, and everyone that has a vote in the country. They deserve better than that.
Oh, and Mr. Hutto, I believe he saved a man's life a couple of years ago and that person personally asked me to the Sheriff's Office so he could publicly thank Deputy Hutto. He stood in the sheriff's office on crutches and tearfully thanked Deputy Hutto. Then he showed everyone a picture of his young daughter and said if it wasn't for Deputy Hutto, his daughter would not have her father in this world. Dep. Hutto was very gracious and tried his best to hold back his tears too. I found both men to be extremely thoughtful and courteous.
Dep. Hutto that was you right? I've tried looking up in the story our system, but I am not finding the story just yet.... it is a very large system of stories, so bear with me and forgive me if I am wrong on this account ... after all this is for a board and not a print. Which reminds me, this post is in no way related to The Saline Courier. This is my own personal account and I am on lunch break (yes it is a late lunch break).

Comment by William Tell on May 19, 2012 at 1:43pm Sheriff Pennington has worked these streets and highways for many years in the Saline County area. Both as a regular officer and as a supervisor. Sheriff Pennington has lost friends and fellow officers over the years to crimes of the streets. Sheriff Pennington has personally got out and checked on properties, worked accidents, investigated crimes, and helped defend the defenseless. Sheriff Pennington is personally part of that Thin Blue Line, which protects you as the first line of defense of your freedoms in your county and state. When people are speaking ugly about the officers who protect us, I want you to remember this:
A Part of America Died...
Somebody killed a policeman today and a part of America died; a piece of our country he swore to protect will be buried with him at his side.
The suspect who shot him will stand up in court with counsel demanding his rights, while a young widowed mother must work for her kids and spend many long, lonely nights.
The beat that he walked was a battlefield too, just as if he had gone off to war; though the flag of our nation won't fly at half mast, to his name they will add a gold star.
Yep, somebody killed a Policeman today, in your town or in mine, while we slept in comfort behind our closed doors...a cop put his life on the line.
Now his ghost walks a beat on a dark city street, and he stands at each new rookie's side; he answered the call, to himself gave his all and a part of America died.

Comment by Cruze on May 19, 2012 at 12:42pm Great response Chris,
Again this is a Sheriffs race, it is political in nature because it is an elected position unlike a Chief of Police which is an appointed position.
The Sheriff is obligated by virtue of his oath of office to work with other agencies, " To Protect and Serve" the citizens of Saline County.
