I have long been concerned about whether or not our sheriff's, past and present, run a background check on the officers they hire.  In a recent meeting with Mike Frost, this topic came up.  I questioned whether it made sense to have a detective who had been arrested in the past for selling drugs out of a Benton PD squad car.  In response to my question, I was given a sermon on forgiveness.

Likewise, the fact that another current employee, who appears  to be an administrator of Pennington's Bruce4Sheriff website, also has a "checkered" past.  I just don't understand how you can expect respect for an administration that doesn't mind that their deputies have a criminal background.

For Henry, who does not like to read documents, I will summarize:

On July 18, 2005, Richard Scott, Saline County Deputy Sheriff, was arrested for 3rd degree domestic battery.  The investigating officer wrote in his report that Scott was drinking at a bar in Little Rock where his X-wife was a waitress.  Scott wanted her to enter a wet shirt contest and she refused.  He became angy and punched her in the left eye where she had visible injuries.  The officer states that Scott was visibly intoxicated.  He was transported to jail.

Just a sdie note to dispel some of the absolutely ignorant guesses made by people like Cooper on who the FOP is referring too... it's pretty obvious they are talking about cops such as those who were proven liars that covered up crimes, made false police reports, and cost taxpayers thousands of dollars because of their choices. Coffman did not do that, and the FOP was always supportive of him, regardless of what the Courier portrayed.

The ignorance that you Ward people are displaying is incredible. You'll make up anything in hopes that some idiot will believe you.

DAP, how do you know they are lying? How do you know Ms. Ives isn't lying? Are you a employee of the Sheriffs office? Are you personally working on her case or overseeing the Sheriff or CID? How do you know they aren't? Your not there on a daily basis, neither is Ms. Ives. All we have is hearsay! For all we know Ms. Ives could be lying! Unless you have cold, hard evidence to prove otherwise.

She does have to right to campaign against whoever she chooses, but it just goes to show you she obviousley has no morals and is only out for herself? What does she think? That James Ward is going to solve her sons murder? From what I have read, which again is only hearsay, this case goes above and beyond Saline County Sheriffs Office and Bruce Pennington!  Its a horrible thing that happened to her son but slinging mud on a Deputy or Deputies that have had nothing to do with her or her sons murder proves nothing! She can disagree but she is no better than anybody else and what kind of person would do that! So like I said, her dramatic quest for attention!

Mr. Hutto, Dude Sir (Very professional by the way)  Off subject a bit... do you write your reports with the word "dude"?  Sample report "Dude, the victim is Mr. Cooper who was burglarized by a coward who entered his home while he was earning the bacon.  Oh thats right you didn't bother coming out.  Now then you are saying that the FOP has said that Mr. Coffman is unfit after he has served nearly 30 years in law enforcement because the good ole boys refused to hire him as jail administrator?  So what...I have applied for jobs that I didn't get please give me something else here that makes him unfit.  Why are we talking about Mr. Harris on another day...finding it hard to come up with a reason he is unfit?  Hope you come back with a better one than him not getting a certian possition.

Mr. Cooper--As usual your information is misplaced.  Scott went throught the same channels as all new hires do.  He passed all of them with flying colors.  Again, I will repeat myself, this justice system is whatr we have in the USA.  When an alleged crime has been reported, the report is investigated, a court date set and a judgement will be filed.  In Scotts cases (X2) BOTH found him INNOCENT.  Done with that subject.

Concerning the recent firing of an employee.  I have no information to give you.  Please contact the HR department of Saline County.

Now on to a more pressing subject----EJ Harris we will get to him later.  Tony Coffman, hummmm..yep I remember he applied for the Jail Administrator job and didn't make the grade so Don Birdsong was selected and has done a great job revamping the system.  In fact a lifesaving situation presented itself on May 9, 2012.  Front page of Benton Courier along with the ad concerning Wards firing range experience (1 hour).  Paid for by friends of Pennington--Not Bruce himself as you suggest.

No allegations of WARD FAILING the LRPD agility exam TWICE in 1999.  Now, John, we know that WARD is fearful of Kevin due to Keving being in the same class as WARD that year and watching WARD FAIL TWICE.  This can and will be FOI in need be.  Again, so more of WARD's lies.  Keep them coming James you are doing a wonderful marketing job so far.

It shpould concern you John that nearly every LEO Chief in Saline County will NOT TRUST Ward because of the items stated in the Benton Courier May 18, 2012 (pages 1 and 9) with a reprint in the Tri-Lakes edition on Sunday.  IF he gets elected in November, then he is a man on an island with no lifelines.  No education, No experience OOOPs (1 hour) firing range and 120 hours reserve time and 43 days service.

John, John now I refuse to go into past history.  If you will note above only current events and experience (including but not limiteed to current and past LE training) are valid on this comment section on WARD vs Pennington.

You john, are a windy person with very little meat to your subject matter.

Comment by DAP on May 18, 2012 at 11:18pm

Mr. Publius, I don't receive the Courier but I was told that the firing range attack against Ward was a paid advertisement that was put in the paper by Pennington.  Do you know if that's true?

Comment by DAP on May 18, 2012 at 11:14pm

Mr. Cooper...this is me shaking your hand.  Thank you!
