I have long been concerned about whether or not our sheriff's, past and present, run a background check on the officers they hire.  In a recent meeting with Mike Frost, this topic came up.  I questioned whether it made sense to have a detective who had been arrested in the past for selling drugs out of a Benton PD squad car.  In response to my question, I was given a sermon on forgiveness.

Likewise, the fact that another current employee, who appears  to be an administrator of Pennington's Bruce4Sheriff website, also has a "checkered" past.  I just don't understand how you can expect respect for an administration that doesn't mind that their deputies have a criminal background.

For Henry, who does not like to read documents, I will summarize:

On July 18, 2005, Richard Scott, Saline County Deputy Sheriff, was arrested for 3rd degree domestic battery.  The investigating officer wrote in his report that Scott was drinking at a bar in Little Rock where his X-wife was a waitress.  Scott wanted her to enter a wet shirt contest and she refused.  He became angy and punched her in the left eye where she had visible injuries.  The officer states that Scott was visibly intoxicated.  He was transported to jail.

Wow, just....wow. I feel sorry for these guys who have apparently done nothing to anyone on here but happen to put on a uniform and try to work everyday. How sad for them to be trounced when they aren't even running for public office. Dep Scott, if you are reading this, thank you for all you do every time you put on your badge. To the other deputies on here who were also torn to pieces; thank you also gentlemen, I do appreciate you. I am sure your job is tough enough without being pounded on daily by people who really do not know your hearts or minds. People who may actually need your help one day; and I am sure you would answer that call even though they apparently would not spit on you if you were on fire. Again, thank you.

who was the investigator? I mean his biggest concern is the officers clothing? The guy shots a unarmed , Handcuffed woman. and hes talking about the clothing not being the best choice? Looks like we had a investigator on his first day or sumptin.

There are a few of you guys on here that have you mind made up no matter what. But alot of people ive talked to say they are suprised by the information being posted here. I believe Ms. Ives states her intent of this blog clearly, "It is a lack of judgment by Pennington to hire people of this quality" I mean really,he shot someone that was handcuffed? I understand he was younger, I understand that he may be a good guy now, but is he really officer material? Some people are just not cut out for some jobs, especially if your trigger happy. We have a very limited police force in Saline county and i just wonder why we are hiring people of this caliber when others are out there, is it that hard to find someone that has not shot people that are handcuffed? Or been fired from another department? Is it really that hard to find a officer that does not have problems in the past?

Whether a few of you understand it or not, hiring people to uphold the law should be taken very seriously. Its a great responsibility, and Linda says it right, if he hires people with this kind of past, is he really do justice for the citizens of saline county?

and the more i think about it, the more absurd the story becomes. a hand cuffed drunk female is whooping two fine officers a-----, and one of them shoots her accidentily ?   take both of their bullets

Why can't the current sheriff find LEOs without something bad in their background?  Is it that hard to find them????

The following is a quote from Mr. Lynch's post which you can read in its entirety below.  I simply posted the rest of the documents I had in my possession.   Again, people can make their own judgements --  I believe the hiring of this officer goes to the lack of judgement by Pennington.

"Its funny how only selected documents were put on here and what was put on here does not tell the whole story of what happened in the City of England."

i say again, bruce, take his bullet away!

Comment by John Publius on May 14, 2012 at 11:11pm
