I have long been concerned about whether or not our sheriff's, past and present, run a background check on the officers they hire. In a recent meeting with Mike Frost, this topic came up. I questioned whether it made sense to have a detective who had been arrested in the past for selling drugs out of a Benton PD squad car. In response to my question, I was given a sermon on forgiveness.
Likewise, the fact that another current employee, who appears to be an administrator of Pennington's Bruce4Sheriff website, also has a "checkered" past. I just don't understand how you can expect respect for an administration that doesn't mind that their deputies have a criminal background.
For Henry, who does not like to read documents, I will summarize:
On July 18, 2005, Richard Scott, Saline County Deputy Sheriff, was arrested for 3rd degree domestic battery. The investigating officer wrote in his report that Scott was drinking at a bar in Little Rock where his X-wife was a waitress. Scott wanted her to enter a wet shirt contest and she refused. He became angy and punched her in the left eye where she had visible injuries. The officer states that Scott was visibly intoxicated. He was transported to jail.

Comment by John Publius on May 14, 2012 at 10:28pm Pennington hired him, and he shot a woman who was handcuffed? Barney at the best. Hey Bruce , do you make him keep his bullet in his pocket? Hope so!
Comment by Chris on May 14, 2012 at 10:16pm Two posts turned into one....
You're dragging a man who has nothing to do with the election through mud. He's done nothing to you, has no criminal record, was found not at fault in your latest smear. People say you're "respectable," yet you'll do this? I can understand the smears and lies going out about Ward and Pennington, but dragging this guy through mud? Wow.
The man wasn't even working at this time, and ran out to help his fellow officer with a crazy fighting drunk. Personally, I would love knowing we have guys protecting you and me that would run out of their homes to aid the public if the need was there. Good Lord.
Comment by Jade on May 14, 2012 at 10:15pm LIKE Chris - Really? What part of this report said he did something wrong??? Why is this worth you FOIAing a stream of documents to destroy this man's life? I have always respected you, but sheesh.. you are verging on total meltdown.... (shaking head) SAD

Comment by Stacy Lynch on May 14, 2012 at 4:13pm I am not a resident of Saline County nor do I know information about any of the parties running for office; however, I do know Richard Scott and I am appalled at the personal attack upon him on this page. Yes, he has made a few mistakes in his life as we all have but he has also done a lot of good. Rich is a former co-worker of mine and I consider him one of the greatest friends I have ever had and would trust him with anything. Since my name was put on this post on one of the documents shown, I feel I need to defend a good person. Its funny how only selected documents were put on here and what was put on here does not tell the whole story of what happened in the City of England. Richard Scott was a good officer, who went above and beyond his duty to help people and put his own safety at risk many times to protect and serve the citizens of England. He was involved in our community and took the time to actually talk to residents, listen to their complaints and be a good person and police officer. On his own personal time, he assisted in coaching t-ball and doing anything he could for anybody that asked. I am proud to call Richard Scott my friend and any community that has him as an officer is a blessed community for he will go above and beyond his regular job duties and always be professional, caring and compassionate in everything he does.
Comment by Chris on May 7, 2012 at 2:28pm This thread is in itself based solely on hearsay (per a well-known defense attorney in our area) that apprently went nowhere, making it nothing more than a display of politically dragging people through dirt unrelated to our election, bringing up issues that would not be a factor (finding a criminal history that is not there), etc. A hearsay thread in which you literally suggested (made up) that I am fine with the idea of LEO's beating women. Not only is that absolutely ridiculous to begin with, nothing I ever said came close to any of the ignorant, unbacked, accusatory claims you made up out of thin air for your agenda.
Just look at your previous post about me not liking your hat. I already told you I am a fan of the Tea Party. I told you I support the ideas coming out of the Tea Party. Sure, there are moments when I do not necessarily support one idea or another, but that means very little. Yet you still have to use your "hat" as the reason that I supposedly disagree with you, don't believe you, think you're a liar (and if you deny making up those things about what you said about me, then you very much are one), etc.
My opinion on hearsay is that it can lead you to the facts. You must do you research to find out. Problem is i keep hearing tons of hearsay about Ward, not much documentation to back it up. Where is the documentation of the wreck you keep claiming ward had? I know if a county employee wrecked a police vehicle then it would be documented and subject to a FOI.
Please tell me what i have made up on here?
Comment by Chris on May 7, 2012 at 2:06pm Casey, I already told you I am a fan of the Tea Party................................ But you continue to ignore everything someone says and make up your own ideas without cause or reason, and then pretend the person you are talking to actually believes the nonsense you try to pin on them.
So tell me. What's your opinion on "hearsay?"
Wow Chris,
You keep showing your one sidedness all the time. Just because you dont like my hat does not mean im a lier.
