Linda,
Your a model citizen that has become involved by no choice of yours. Thank you for shedding light on what voters need to see.
Comment by Trainguy on May 5, 2012 at 10:50am Linda Ives, I've wondered that issue many times. When James Ward is elected I hope you will work closely with him in addressing the many things you have brought out. If by chance he does not get elected then maybe you need to run for sheriff next time and kick butt.
Shadow you are selective with whom you apply the law. What about Pennington being on duty while intoxicated? You don't fool anyone with your double talk and double standards. I can't see where the judge violated anything. And according to what I read, he addressed Milligan in a private setting but Milligan took it to the public and made the issue. He can't claim to be embarassed if he is the one who broadcast it.
Why do we tolerate officials with no respect for the law? Perhaps we need to be asking this question of Judge Grisham Phillips, who considers non-selection of staff members ("at will" employment) to be firing what he considers a valuable staff, and refuses to swear in a public official over it, exacting a penalty of sorts over that individual and causing him embarassment and distress for performing a lawful act.
We do love that word "illegally," don't we? Your campaign against Pennington is now crystal clear, Mrs. Ives, but what Mr. Ward has promised you in return for your support remains a mystery.
If things are as you have described, it is astonishing that it took until three weeks before a primary to bring it out, considering that these three men have done no wrong. There is absolutely no evidence of any kind of favoritism, but perception, as the saying goes, is everything. And in turn, this post finds you addressing a duck.
Politics makes strange bedfellows. But let's do settle the issue quickly, rather than letting it hang until primary time. My respect for you does not extend to misplaced political relationships. Your question stands on its merits or lack of them.
Comment by Linda Ives on May 5, 2012 at 9:35am Absolutely it does -- Pennington deputized ALL officers in Benton and Bryant.. The three that I believe are serving as a JP illegally is Mark Kizer, Tom Lish, and Allen Dabbs. My question about whether they do, or could, show the sheriff favor stems from his list of accomplishments as sheriff that he has established a strong working relationship with the quorum court. Does this sound like a violation of the law to you Duck?
