Scary were the lines at Spook City

There were BILLYUNS of people in Benton at Spook City! The reason that we stopped going to Boo at the Zoo in Little Rock is because it was so full of people, and you waited in line at each station for like a peppermint or a taffy, and by the time you get out of there, you've chucked twenty bucks and received 10 crummy pieces of candy and a headache from trying to keep up with your kid(s) in the chaos of the crowd.… Continue

Scary Animated Stick-people Hangman

If you don't come up with the answer, the stick-guy gets it. Unlike regular Hangman, this game is timed. And you don't have much time. Plus every time you miss a letter, you have to listen to him scream. Bwah-haa-hhaa-hhaaaaa!!!…

High Resolution Saline County Maps from the AHTD

These maps are either high

resolution scanned images in Tagged-Image File Format (TIFF) or Adobe PDF

format. TIFF is the preferred format because it is lossless. TIFF files are

compatible with many programs. Microsoft Windows users will see good

results with the 'Microsoft Imaging' application. Adobe Acrobat Reader

is needed to view the PDF format.…

Old-Fashioned Day 2007

Somehow, we never make in time for the bonnet contest, but we saw plenty of other things in Downtown Benton Saturday - at the 33rd Annual Old-Fashioned Day. We saw quilts and other crafts, bouncy rides for kids, registered to win a bbq grill, paid four bucks for four teeny weeny cokes, saw an auctioneer dee-be-dee-be-dee a skateboard (Is that old-fashioned or not?) and heard the wonderful singing harmony of the Melody Boys all before our four-year-old decided for us that it was… Continue

A-maize-ing Mazes

If you've taken a look yet at the post about U-Pick Farms and Pumpkin Patches, you may have seen the listing for Schaefer's Farm. Maybe you scrolled on by it, but you might be interested to see where that link goes. Schaefer's Farm is in Mayflower, so somewhere between kinda far and not terribly far from Saline County.

They have harvest stuff…

LET'S GO EAT! Everyone suggest a non-chain restaurant in Saline County where we should go eat together. Let's vote on it and go eat there in a couple of weeks!

Yes, most of the MySaline membership lives in Benton, but it doesn't have to be in Benton. Maybe it's in Bryant or Alexander (sorry folks, DiCarlo's is in Pulaski) or East End or Haskell or... well, you get it. We had several people come to the park and it'll be good to get together again, but…

Who's giving you the business?

Here’s an excerpt of something Cliff posted on his page.

  • Regarding local business, please tell me which restaurant, hardware store, butcher, plumber, auto mechanic does a great job. I'm a firm believer in keeping my dollars at the local level. Don't want to give the guy at Walgreen's $8 when I can give that same $8 to…

Google's "International Cleanup Weekend" (or, as we say in the south, Your momma doesn't work here!)

Okay, here's the deal. Google has taken it upon themselves to ask people around the world to clean stuff up. The basic idea is to get a group together and pick up trash around a particularly trashy area. Google suggests "parks, beaches, trails and other places close to home."

Google wants people to plan an event, then mark it on their International Cleanup Weekend map. During the… Continue

UALR Benton on River Street

It's a little campus, but it's got the Arkansas System backing it up. UALR's Benton Campus has the potential to grow into something much larger over the next decade or so. I thought I'd snap off a few shots of it for you, just to get you in the mood of thinking about it.

Have a look at it online. Click the pic below.…
