Michael Shipp's Rooster Trail - Playing Politics to Play Riverfest & Playing to Protect Against Politicians

The Riverfest 2012 wild weekend has come to pass, hot weather, hot music, hot girls, among other things.  It was exciting for my band, SHIPP, to perform at Riverfest last Saturday on the Amphitheater stage.  Saw a ton of folks I recognized, and believe me, we always need and appreciate the support.  In my music career, I’ve been fortunate to get to perform for thousands, yet experienced enough to have performed for as few as a half-dozen…

My presidential choice.... .???

Why I Am Endorsing Mitt Romney For President (And Not Ron Paul)

I understand that there are a number of Republicans (including Yours Truly) who are currently campaigning to become delegates to the Republican National Convention who have formerly expressed support for the presidential candidate, Ron Paul.

Like me, they may be running into some questions about their loyalty to the “presumptive candidate”, Mitt Romney.

For that reason, and others that I will soon… Continue

Justice Is Just Another Word In The Dictionary

If you seek justice in Saline County Arkansas, you may find your search fruitless. The political landscape in this small Arkansas county has skeletons in the closet that seemingly reach their slimy tentacles to Washington D.C. Politics have always been for the "not faint of heart" in this sleepy little wide place in the road that sits just minutes from the Capitol of Arkansas. Whispered stories of presidential involvement in murder, drug running and organized crime are spread so matter…

Amazing birthday weekend in St. Louis!!!

Hubby treated me to a wonderful weekend in St. Louis for my birthday. After checking in to our hotel suite, we went on a Riverboat Dinner Cruise aboard the Becky Thatcher - a two-hour cruise down the mighty Mississippi. We dined on Alaskan Pollack and Prime Rib.  Food was excellent.  It was a clear night and the skyline - including the Gateway Arch - was beautiful.

The second day was jacuzzi and pool time then off to…

All about the money...what happened to protection?

I can't help but notice that two agencies in Saline County now have nice luxury soccer mom SUV's and it makes me wonder.  When did it become about the toys anyway?

Picture collectors

Is there any orginization or person that collects old pictures in Saline Co. I have some old picture of the 30s 40s and 50s ofpeople I believe to be from Saline county.   Myself or none of the surviving family members recognize these people or places. I just want to give them to an organization or person that would like to have them . Some one might recognize some of these people. Thanks

Long Weekend or Memorial Day Weekend?

Off we go to the lake for a long holiday weekend.  It saddens me a bit that most people seem to celebrate being off work rather than the intention of the holiday.

I am guilty.  Now that I am older, I am more aware of the purpose - "Memorial Day is a day of remembering the men and women who died while serving in the United States Armed Forces" (Wikipedia).  There is little hype - a holiday isn't a holiday until Wal-Mart devotes an entire aisle to celebrate.  No gifts being given -…

Go away Mosquitos!

Would someone please help me get rid of mosquitos? My wonderful husband built me a beautiful deck to enjoy in the backyard, but I can't use it. The mosquitos are terrible! We don't have any standing water or tall grass around. I hate having to wear sticky bug spray every time I go outside. If anyone knows of any tricks to rid my yard of these pest, I would so appreciate hearing from you.

clocking cars on I-30

I was  my way to Magnolia on I30 around 11 Saturday morning when i saw a Benton city patrolman sitting on I 30 clocking cars  just out side of the city limits.  As I was returning at 11 that night  I saw another officer clocking cars out past the Saline river bridge. My question is why are city officers  clocking cars and issuing tickets on I-30 instead of patrolling the streets of Benton. Just a thought

This one is for all candidates, no matter the election outcome.

1 Samuel 9  (THE MESSAGE)

1 There was a man from the tribe of Benjamin named Kish. He was the son of Abiel, grandson of Zeror, great-grandson of Becorath, great-great-grandson of Aphiah - a Benjaminite of stalwart character. 2 He had a son, Saul, a most handsome young man. There was none finer - he literally stood head and shoulders above the crowd!…

Agree to Disagree

Today is the last of it. Regardless how it goes I hope everyone  knows we have the right to our own opinions. That is what is so great about this country. I hope that everyone will set aside their differences and work to the betterment of this county and try and support whoever is in office. And if a person is truly sincere we will do this.

back from fishin'

looks as if I've had a MUCH better day than ya'll.  Didn" catch anything worth keeping, but the Game and Fish will be glad to know their bass were well fed today!!!  :}  Being out in the breeze and solitude gives one  a new perspective.   After tomorrow evening, life will go on.    No matter the results, for any of the positions, Donnie Burks will keep us informed, and the results will be final.  And the new day will begin.

Dirty Politics Starts With Rick Meyer

Linda Ives - "As Chairman of the Saline County Republican Committee, Meyer again was always swirling in controversy.  If elected office holders dared to buck his authority, Meyer made sure they had a hand picked opponent in the next election cycle.  In 2008, Meyer helped his Democratic friend and candidate for sheriff defeat his own party's nominee James Ward.  He kept the party at odds creating a split until…
