Was Cornwell playing golf on taxpayer time and money?

Posted on June 24, 2009 at 5:32pm 18 Comments

First, a preface that I think charity is a wonderful thing and the Christian Clinic serves a great purpose and nothing that follows is intended to denigrate the fine folks who run this fantastic organization ....

Well, it looks like Lamont Cornwell has transplanted his antics from the statehouse to his new job with the City of Benton. It is my understanding that Cornwell was one of the players at a recent charity golf tournament …. And it was during business hours - possibly at the… Continue

Make your drive time educational, fun

Many of us commute to work and spend LOTS of time in our cars – usually cussing at the other drivers and wondering how on earth they qualified for a license. Depending on your pay scale, commuters have everything from AM radios to fancy satellite-connected radio/sound systems in their cars to help make the minutes and hours more bearable.

But, there comes a time when you just don’t want to listen to the inane chatter of the… Continue

Here's the skinny on the coming digital TV conversion

Posted on January 13, 2009 at 8:00am 2 Comments

Ready for the digital “revolution” in television? Maybe …. Maybe NOT!

A Washington television station recently did an “undercover” story on what happens when consumers ask questions about what they need to do to be ready. The reporter went to a major discount store and well-known “big box” stores and found the level of stupidity of some sales people appalling.

• One sale person said all the customer would need is the digital conversion box – no antenna – NOT… Continue

Make backup fast and relatively inexpensive

Posted on January 11, 2009 at 8:30am 2 Comments

Back in the “the day” (which was not that long ago, actually) our computers were used for more-or-less utilitarian tasks such as word processing, chatting online, games, etc. The files associated with these type activities were relatively small – especially when compared to today’s massive music and picture files that can be many megabytes.

Small files meant it was little trouble to back your data up from time-to-time on such things as floppy disks. Later, as files and disk drives became… Continue

Hey David, a question, or clarification on your post about the carpetbaggers in the County Judge/Confederate Flag thread.  Do you mean carpetbaggers are Yankees or it referred to the Southerners who remained here after the War.  I had always thought the term carpetbagger referred to yankees who came down here to take advantage of the reconstruction (and the residents) after the Civil War.  Named such because they arrived on trains carrying their possessions in carpet bags.

I ask because Dad had made a reference once about a nearby county in which some kin lived which was full of carpet baggers.  So - who were the carpet baggers?

I thought I'd ask you in comments instead of cluttering the thread up since it's already gone so far off topic.

Thanks,

Cara

Hi David,
The house I live in is in Central Texas. I think I do remember the one you used as a studio in Benton because I think you took my wedding pictures there. Great pictures by the way, even if the marriage didn't last.

Thanks David for your comment. The county and city employees are not allowed to work on private property. Not sure what we will do to solve this problem. More than likely will try to raise money to have a tree company do the work. One tree is about 4 ft in diamiter and 120 ft high. The otherf one about half that size but is about 100 ft high. Anyway I am working on it. And no, no one else but you has made a suggestion or comment. Thanks again....Joe Lee
