During the catastrophic collapse of the housing market in 2008 and 2009, Verizon Arena broke even. I would say that is a testiment to the viability of their facility. I wish their Board of Directors the very best.

The Verizon Arena information was provided in response to the erroneous allegation that "it continuously operates in the red. Therefore, the Fairplex is doomed.". In spite of the fact that the Fairplex was not designed to compete with Verizon Arena.…

I am a "lifer" since 1964 - born at Saline Memorial Hospital (Dr. Hogue) graduated from Benton High School in 1982. I have deep roots in Saline County. My great-great grandfather, Charles Franklin Moore, was a Confederate hero who lost a portion of one arm while being held in a Yankee prison. In 1861, he served as Treasurer of Saline County and after returning from the war was the 2nd pastor of First Baptist Church of Benton. His son, Alfonso Moore, worked as the janitor/maintenance man of the Saline County Courthouse when it opened in 1902. Another responsibility for Alfonso was winding the clock at the courthouse. He died on a Sunday morning (after winding the clock) in front of Benton State Bank (currently Regions Bank). My grandfather, Lee Moore, worked at Alcoa and served as President of the local chapter of the "CIO" labor union before it merged with the "AFL".

From my mother's side, my Papaw Lefty worked at Reynolds for 30+ years. Funny thing, he would talk about working the "Graveyard Shift" and I took that quite literally (I pictured him in his hard hat and work boots performing some type of maintenance work at a graveyard). My Mamaw Ruby's family (The Fosters) originated in Montgomery County (Lake Ouachita) and worked in the timber industry. They lived in an elaborate "covered wagon" - similar to a mobile home. It was a huge flatbed trailer with heavy canvas walls that were "modularized". They migrated with the timber industry during its season. When I was a youngster, Mamaw Ruby opened "Ruby's Cafe" on Edison Avenue - around the corner from Garry's Drive In. That is where I spent the majority of my childhood. She was famous for fried chicken and "Tall Pies".

In 2002, I married the most beautiful girl in the world. She's a real looker!
City in Saline County of particular interest & why (ex: _____ because I live/work/have family/friends there.)
My family and I have lived in Benton our entire lives. With the exception of short stays in Denver, CO and Dayton, OH while my dad trained with NCR (National Cash Register).

Currently, I serve the citizens of Benton on the City Council as an alderman for Ward 4, Position 1. Also, I was elected by my fellow aldermen to serve on the Benton Advertising and Promotion Commission.

We are at a critical time in the history of Benton and Saline County. Critical decisions have been made and are being considered as we speak. I am proud to say that most folks that are involved are working very hard to get those decisions "right".

I encourage you to get more involved in your local government and make yourself available for service. Your local elected officials need to hear from you!

These are exciting times. The winds of change are blowing in a positive direction. God has placed us in this exact time in history to capture that wind in an effort to make a positive impact for our community(s) for generations to come. There are exciting opportunities bubbling beneath the surface for Benton, Bryant and Saline County.

I hope to use this venue as an outlet to share information that affects our daily lives and quality of life. Also, please feel free to contact me to share your excitement and concerns.

Update on Hwy 5 from Salem Road to Springhill Road (Kenneth Ray)

During the Benton City Council meeting last night (July 26), I asked Mayor Holland what it would take to work with Metroplan to move forward with plans to upgrade Hwy 5 to Springhill Road (Benton's portion). My question was sparked by Mayor Holland's announcement that Metroplan had began their study of Hwy 5 to Hot Springs Village.

Mayor Holland said Hwy 5 north toward Bryant was very much on the radar screen and that he and Mayor Mitchell of Bryant (both are Metroplan board me

Dear Saline County ("Central Arkansas Fairplex")

Dear Citizens:
I am writing to introduce you to the proposed Central Arkansas Fairplex to be located at Watts Field (old Saline County Airport) off Interstate 30 at Exit 116. This proposal has been under development by the general public, grassroots community groups and the Benton Advertising & Promotion Commission for two years. The A&P Commission hired Gralla/GH2 Architects of Norman, OK to guide the City of Benton through… Continue

Central Arkansas Fairplex at Saline Crossing - Total Economic Impact @ 84 Months

Based on conservative economic impact/feasibility studies paid for by the Benton Advertising and Promotion Commission, the Central Arkansas Fairplex at Saline Crossing would create 800 jobs during the 18 month construction phase with an estimated average salary of $30,000 annually. Once completed, the Central Arkansas Fairplex would create 300 permanent jobs in Saline County with an

Let's not let UALR forget about the possibility of establishing a new nursing school in or near Benton. It only cost $1.5 million for the new nursing school at Henderson State University.
