"I am running for JP in Fairplay and plan to give back 200.00 per month as the citizens request. That amounts to only a measly $2400.00. If every JP would do the same, that would amount to $31,200.00
Here is challenge. Ask your JP if he or she would…"
"I have only one question for all candidates. What do you intend to do when the money you vote for is not spent as was written. I see that we now have a cigarette tax that was supposed to pay for a trauma I center. We still don't have one and…"
My name is Sherry Gilbert. I am running for JP as a Republican for Fairplay precinct. I'm an old nurse with 30 years experience and a grandmother of 4 fine kids. We need common sense management in our Quorum court. The kids need a chance for opportunity just like we had. If we don't get serious about our spending, they won't have one. "No Hanke isn't running so I won't have a primary opponent. I wouldn't have run if he was. He shares the same views as I do on county government.
I know there are issues with the stray dogs and taxing liquor. Do you have any others…"
Well, I think you could do a fine job. It seems like to me that the QC is less high profile and "politicky" than the local city councils. I could be wrong. Do you know if Hanke is running again? That is the district, isn't it?
I support the tax as it was proposed by the Public Safety Citizens Committee. One thing that I did before supporting it was to have a 'Sunset Clause' attached to it. What that does is after 10 years, the tax would be cut in half. This would give enough time to build out new stations and fund personnel for those but after the build out there would be enough to continue supporting the new stations. What I did not want to see was after the build out was that the tax continue and amassing a huge surplus.
The tax in my mind is a referendum for the people to decide. Will Benton continue to grow or are the citizens happy and feel safe with what we have now?
