On April 22, 1946 my Grandma Athey gave this very Bible to her daughter, my mother, Mrs. Maxine Poole. Not long afterwards Grandma Athey replaced this Bible with a new Bible with smaller print. Through most of my early years my maternal grandmother lived two states away. Grandma Athey communicated regularly with us by mail all the way from New Mexico to our P.O. Box in 1940’s Wilton, Arkansas. I always enjoyed her long newsy letters. Each one was fat with folded sheets of paper and each sheet was penned edge to edge with a rainbow of colored ink. It is not Mother's Day, but then we are not bound by the calendar when we find ourselves thinking of that special person we call Mom, Mama, or Mother. I wrote this for a friend a few years back when he lost his Mom. You can bet I was thinking of my own when the words came to visit.
