Way too early for ripe persimmons, and if you're looking for 'em green, just one is all you will want.

I would like to point out that when it has come to a vote, only my alderman, Larry Wolf, put up a NO to rubber-stamping the rates asked for by the PUC.

I can’t make heads or tails of this sign controversy. The statements by both candidates and news coverage has been so vague as to the time line, location, and identification of the property owners, that I can not piece together an understanding. I…

Harper,

I just checked out the Gardenia you shared and it is loaded with big buds. Won't be long until it is loaded with blooms.

Thank you for sharing with me.

Remember that park that was proposed for construction in the flood plain on the southeast corner at I-30 exit 114? I noticed that there is a dirt pit on the northwest corner of the same intersection. What a deal! If the voters had gone for it, they could have sold millions of dollars worth of fill from the northwest corner to raise the southeast corner land by two feet to take it out of the floodplain.

You might already be aware of the AHTD web site for getting cost information. There are weighted averages with high and low contract prices.

Harper, I agree with you. Building a park in the floodplain was a really stupid idea. According to my article from the 2/11/07 Benton Courier, they were going to raise the land by two feet to take it out of the floodplain. I used the AHTD bid tabs and calculated the cost over two years ago. I can't repeat the number exactly, but I can assure you that the cost is quite high.

Bringing up ancient history might confuse some people, since a new and different project is now being discussed. Confusion would punish the people who have worked so hard to move the community forward and would deprive the community of a long needed project.

Broadband

This morning my thoughts are turned to the lack of highspeed communications to much of our community. In a way, I think we have nobody to blame but ourselves for the situation.

Suppose for a minute that we are the board of directors for one of the corporations that supply these services and we are considering where is the next place we will expand our network. There is a major investment required to lay fiber optic line and we look closely at the potential customers for an area compared to cons… Continue

We missed the boat.

Or rather, most of the boats never showed up.

Last February I was lamenting the failure to enhance the recreation opportunity represented in the spillway at Lake Norrel and the river downstream.

My post from back then …

In my opinion we are failing to maximize the recreation value of this stream. It's use falls mainly in the spring and fall because the recreation is highly dependent on the stream flow. We have the ability to enhance the flow and we should be doing it. Does it make sense toContinue

Buying things we don’t need.

I guess we have all done it; bought a musical instrument we would learn to play, or maybe an exorcize machine for a body transformation. It sounded like a good idea at the time, but the instrument is in the closet and the exorcize machine is in the garage. I don’t know what your mistake in judgment was, but I bet you’ve made the same type mistake.

Municipalities do the same thing. Recently, in a discussion of things remembered, ‘B-Town Girl said “The Park, when we had rides, miniature golf, sno… Continue

Staying out of trouble

So the other night the wife and I were watching TV when one of those internet matchmaking ads came on. She looks over to me and asks " Are we soulmates?" The warning lights flash and the alarm bells ring. This is the type question gets husbands in deep trouble.

If you have ever been a witness at trial, you have probably had a lawyer tell you to keep your answers short. If a yes or no will work, stop there. Don't elaborate, don't volunteer any addition information. And for you guys that haven't… Continue
