MySaline told you in April about several new businesses that either had already opened or would be opening soon in Benton. Many are in the downtown area. One of those businesses is Main St. Station, at the corner of Conway and Main Streets.
It used to be a gas station and stayed vacant for a few years. Marcia Rachel and Mary Robin Harriell operate property and were initially advised to tear it down. They ran the numbers and decided it would be more beneficial to fix it up.
They intend this property to be used as a food truck court, and eventually, there is a plan of setting up a place for craft beer. See more about their July 14th Grand Opening in the flyer at the end of this article.
You may have already seen the Koffee With a Kause truck at front and center of Main St. Station. This is owner Jared Voth’s second location, as he has had one in Bryant near the Interstate for about three years. I’ve had their delicious coffee and other drinks many times. It’s the only place in Saline County that I’ve found boba tea. Jared says to grab a hot or cold drink there Mondays through Fridays.
Today, I happened to be passing through downtown in search of a late lunch. I was so hungry and the bright yellow sign on Tommy’s Grill food truck caught my eye (and my stomach) so I hooked a quick right turn into the parking lot. Lucky for me, all of these owners were present for me to sit down and talk with them and get their picture.
Tommy Kilpatrick was supervising his two employees, which makes it a family business. His workers are his kids, Emily and Austin. Not only that, but while I visited with folks, a truck drove up and it was Tommy’s mother making a delivery to him. Tommy said he believes it’s important to have kids work and not have everything given to them. Let me tell you about the sandwich those kids made for me.
I also ordered a Philly Cheese Steak Burger from Tommy’s that was so good and so bad. Oh, the creamy melted cheese and the sauteed yellow and red bell peppers and onions. And the beef was juicy and savory and I wanted three more to take home with me. Yes, that’s it at the top of this article. Tommy says they will be in this spot on Tuesdays and Fridays from 11 a.m. – 2 p.m.
This is exciting to see all the new business on Interstate 30 with the new car dealerships and the mall, but there’s a lot going on in downtown Benton, too. Here is the info I promised you about the grand opening. I’ll be there, so say hello!
