does anyone buy any laptops from pawnshops? ever sell any at pawnshops? I have a Dell, Pentium II I think I want to sell just to get something bigger.

Ok, I'm one more geek to add to everyone's discussions. Is there any women in here? I am a network analyst and work in Little Rock. Our work stems around nothing but Microsoft, but it's ironic my coworkers have Macs at home!

Hello all. I'm mainly a PC user (Vista & XP) & have some knowledge in Linux / Unix. The only time I use MAC is when I do production for Midtowne Church. They seem to function okay... just not my cup of tea.

I run a computer consulting business from my home in Bryant. I can repair computers, extract viruses / spyware / malware, install small / large scale servers and networks, write programs, *insert need here*. :-)

I use mostly Windows computers for personal use, although the computer I'm on now dual boots XP and Scientific Linux, which is a Red Hat clone. It was an experiment when I was looking at RH clones for work, where we finally centered on CentOS, another RH clone.
Both of them basically take the RH sources and compile them into a distribution. There are others.
I've played around with Ubuntu live CDs, they work really well but I've never installed it on anything yet. I know how to use all of the tools that are RH specific and while I've messed around with Debian distros I've never really used them for work.
I may put Ubuntu on my laptop as soon as my new HD comes in. I just set it up with a dual boot with XP Ubuntu.

I have used Apple computers for 5 years. I still keep a few PCs. I am a collector of Apple Macintosh computers. I run a part-time business with computers from my home in Benton. I buy and sell Apple computers on eBay and occasionally buy and sell locally.

I've heard nothing but good things about the Macs. I understand OSX is based on the same sort of kernel that powers bsd, which is attractive to me since I know bsd is extremely stable (not to mention having command line I'll actually use-- I hate DOS). Anyone who's seen a bsod (blue screen of death) or had to reboot more than twice in a day knows how attractive stability can be.

Hey Chris-- Are you running 64-bit 8.04? Java was no problem at all for me, but flash is still kinda dicey on mine (64-bit flash is still not great in any OS). I've emulated 32-bit Firefox with flash on top of 64-bit Ubuntu with a directory of 32-bit support libs, but I'm determined with 8.04 to have everything work as well in a pure 64-bit environment. Currently it works, but it's not yet stable to my standards. Just wondering if you've had similar experience with Ubuntu 64 and, if so, how you addressed flash.

My wife just bought a mac... I have to say.... Not Bad.... I have never liked laptop keyboards, but her's fits my hands really nicely. It's a whole lot lighter than our PC laptop, (of course it's 4 years younger too). Oh and the programs run really well too.
