I thought this would be a good group to start because

It will allow the candidates a place to discuss issues with potential constituants and each other in a way it could easily become an ongoing debate which could get interesting.

Will you take the challenge?

This looks like the first ordinance of 2011.

I am running for JP in Fairplay and plan to give back 200.00 per month as the citizens request. That amounts to only a measly $2400.00. If every JP would do the same, that would amount to $31,200.00

Here is challenge. Ask your JP if he or she would be willing to do as I pledge? Then vote your conscience.

This isn't directed at anyone in particular - just expressing a pet peeve...I find it very difficult to support any candidate for any public office, regardless of espoused ideals, who cannot write a correctly spelled, grammatically correct sentence. These people are going to represent Saline County - please at the very least elect someone literate.

Hi, My Name is Timothy Henke

Citizen’s of Benton,

Here we go again, taxation without representation. I believe we had this instance occur a few years ago, you all may have studied about it in school, they threw a little party.

Now your current mayor and city council want to limit the number of wards and alderman that represent us, not that we were ever truly represented anyway. Did you know that these Alderman you elected, are not bound to vote your wishes, they vote for what they personally want. You know this to be true, by the fact that anytime an important council issue was coming to a vote, your Alderman Representative never came to your door or sent a flyer to your home, asking for your opinion on these matters, if you let this ordinance to limit the number of wards and Alderman pass, you will be allowing the Mayor and city council, Carte Blanch there will be no end to tax hikes.

Let see, how about we annex in more communities, then we had a larger taxable base, so now you are part of the City of Benton, do you reap any rewards for this, besides being allowed to now pay additional taxes. Have your roads improved, have your children’s parks improved are they safe, clean, neatly kept, with the proper facilities available (restrooms and water dispensers)

My name is Timothy Henke; I am running for Mayor of Benton and hope for the opportunity to serve you. I also served my country in the Military; one of my opponents also did a tour in the military; however my tour of duty was considerably longer from 1975 until 1995, I am a retired United States Naval Chief Petty Officer. I have been a Leader all of my adult life.

I think on my feet, it does not take years of studying issues to decide the correct course of action. In my present position with Dassault Falcon Jet, I routinely make decisions that affect my personnel’s ability to get there assignments completed in a timely manner while reducing the overall cost to the company, I believe in developing a plan of action

And following it through, Time management is the key to all successful endeavors. Oh by the way, another of my opponents has recently bragged in the local paper, He served on a seven man commission for public safety, it only took them 2 years of study and research, but they reached a conclusion; Raise taxes. We work hard for our livings; you pay taxes on your income, you spend your income in support of your families; again you pay taxes, you purchase a car, boat, a home; you’ll pay taxes at the time of purchase, and again for every year you own these items

I do not believe raising taxes is the answer to anything, unless you like a zero growth stagnant economy. I wish to bring in more Business in the way of manufactures into the City and the County; this will create jobs, employ more tax paying citizens, and reduce the number of welfare recipients.

I’ve seen my opponent’s faces on billboards and web sites. Why are they smiling? Do they really believe all it takes is money and a smile to be mayor?

You and I know better, it takes someone like you, to represent you, and to work only for you the Citizens of Benton.

PS, why are we making Pulaski and Garland counties richer with our tax dollars? Those monies would be better spent here in Saline County. You can purchase alcohol now, here at selected Businesses and Clubs here in Benton

It’s all just food for thought; you can give me your answers on November 2, 2010

Thanks for reading
