Who manages the paper and plastic recyling bins in Benton?

Permalink Reply by Greg White on March 28, 2012 at 7:32am It is still handled by Saline County Waste Management District and serviced by Republic, owners of our landfill. They have been moved to Neely Street without little public notification. I am sure that they are being filled with trash now!
If you really want some good trash and recycling service, I recommend you check out Saline Waste and Recycling.

They do curbside recycling and trash pick up once a week for only $20 including tax. They will even pick up scrap metals and old appliances and furniture ($5 per item). Saves you having to carry it off!
Mr. White, it is good to see that you have come full circle from socialized trash pick up all the way to recommending a private entity to do the task.

Permalink Reply by Greg White on March 28, 2012 at 2:25pm I had always been in favor of private entities performing the collection service, especially the trash service. None of the private trash haulers wanted to handle the recycling except for Mr. Beck. However, now the county is going to do exactly what I was trying to prevent. In the next few months we will hear about county wide curbside collection service being provided by the lowest bidding company. Wonder who that will be? Since Republic owns the landfill and BFI and Allied are owned by Republic, in the next year or so those are the only trucks that you will see servicing the entire county!!
They will be your only choice for trash and recycling and the county will be handling your bill on your property taxes just like Hot Springs and Garland County. The cities will loose their potential revenue stream to repair the streets that those heavy trucks will break down and their will be a set price for the service that will be at the control of a commission that is appointed by elected officials. Go figure, the horse will be driven by the county judge who is not even opposed in this election cycle.
