Hey Sheila -- that # does include the interim chiefs -- Holland actually 1st took office in Jan 2003 and he "strong-armed" Watters into "resigning" that same month. Holland intended to hire Kirk Lane at that time but a public outcry forced him to back down and Chambers, who was serving as Holland's "transition coordinator" was appointed Chief of Police. In June of 2003 Holland attempted to create a position for Lane and bring him in as "assistant chief of police" which also did not fly. Bottom line is, Holland has been trying to cram Kirk Lane down our throats for years and seems to have finally succeeded. If citizens out there don't like the appointment they should call the mayor and city council members to express their feelings -- and if a city council meeting is held they should show up!
