The movie war has been fun. It's what got me into MySaline. I have an idea for a new game that works pretty much the same way.
Name a pre-1990 business or landmark. Everyone else tries to be the first to tell where it was located. The one who guesses correctly names the next landmark.

I'll go first...
The bowling alley that burned down in the early to mid 80's.

Yes, indeed! You're it.
Do you hapen to remember when it burned?

No - I was away from Benton when it happened. But, I do rememb er quite well going to the bowling alley run by Eddy MCCray... We bowled, played pinball .... Eddue was one of the first in Benton to get real video arcade games.....

(his son is Peeney McCray who was in my Boy Scout Troop - 34. One of my memories of Peenie is that when we went on the Desoto Trail Hike he wore brand new shoes and got a very bad blister.

Can anyone tel me where the Old Saline County News was located and who ran it for many years?

Here's a bonus question, but it's in the County. Where is there a castle in Saline County and why is it so famous (not for its use today) ....

Those are great questions! Unfortunately, I have no idea.
Maybe I'll give my oldest brother a call...

I don't know about the SC News, but is the castle off of Hwy 5? I have no idea about the use of it.

Cool game Jaggle. Thanks for thinking of it.

I don't know about the newspaper, but as I recall, the monastery in East End was originally built as a home for a quack "doctor" and his wife.

Shelli - You are correct - It is the Carmelite Monastery in East End. Yes- it was Doctor Brinkley who was one of the first radio snake doctors .. he hawked goat glands to increase male ...... you get it. But, prior to that it was a well-known place to get a drionk or two during the prohibition days and into the 30s. I think it is one of the most under appreciated examples of architecture in central Arkansas. I don;t know if they have cleared the lake of alage and seaweed, but at one time the lake there was very beautiful and a great place to picnic with permission.

The old Saline County news was run for years by Harold and Elsie Johnson from their offices at East North and Lillian Streets ihat small strip center there. At one time there was a small grocery store next door. It's there I began my newspaper career shooting pictures and helping get out the weekly two pages at a time on the old flatbed press.

So - I guess You are "it" now . Dave

Okay, since I'm not from here, this might be an easy one for you aborigines. What animal regularly stood on the corner where a Big Red Valero stands now? To what business did he belong?
